Iowa grain elevator explosion
leaves one injured
Clarion, Iowa -- An early morning
grain elevator explosion left one man injured in Clarion, Iowa a
town about 35 miles northeast of Fort Dodge.
The manager of the North Central Co-op
on Northwest 4th Avenue said an explosion blew off the head house
on top of the elevator. The elevator is located on the northwest
side of town. The extent of the damage is not known. Emergency crews
are searching for a cause.
The employee was inside the elevator
shaft at the time of the explosion. He was flown to a Des Moines
hospital. His name was not released and his condition is unknown.
Many nearby homes were evacuated and
wireless internet service is down in the town because the tower
was located on top of the elevator.
