Michigan Gas Station Struck by Lightning

June 11, 2010

Jackson, Michigan. — Lightning struck the parking lot of the Admiral Gas Station at 1910 E. Michigan Avenue, during a recent evening thunderstorm.
The lightning struck near the station's underground storage tanks, according to Dave Van Stempvort, Jackson Fire Department Captain. Concrete was blown upward, leaving a large hole surrounded by the twisted concrete. It's believed that lightning ignited gas fumes, causing the explosion.

The station is closed for now, and will remain closed until repairs are made. No injuries were reported.
